چکیده

Selective excitation of the human visual cortex by patterned stimuli was examined in a randomly selected sample of normal adtdts and adults with severe monocular visual loss resulting from childhood strabismic amblyopia. Six of the eight normal eyes showed selective but variable configuration cortical evoked responses (VER, passband 0.2 to 50 Hz.) to patterned stimulation when lenses were used to vary the retinal focus. The remainder of the normal sample also showed response peaks where resolution was maximum, but these were in the signal passband 50 to 500 Hz., previously called the fast occipital potential (FOP). We applied normalizing signals to correct for individual response variations. Statistical proofs indicated that this procedure reduced variability about mean results. Two of the three amblyopic eyes produced no response peak, VER or FOP, at the refractive value for best resolution. A small VER peak was found in one amblyopic subject who had eccentric fixation. Subtraction of mean nonpattern from pattern-evoked signals at optimal refraction disclosed a cortical signal which may be a relatively "pure pattern" response. As a clinical aid, the VER and its high frequency correlate, the FOP, appear to provide an objective test of the resolving power of the visual system with accuracy equal to or exceeding 0.5 D. sphere.

Responses of primary somatosensory cortical neurons to controlled mechanical stimulation.

The results of psychophysical studies suggest that displacement velocity may contribute significantly to the sensation of subcortical somatosensory neurons. The cortical correlates of these phenomena, however, are not known. In the present study the responses of rapidly adapting (RA) neurons in the forelimb region of cat primary somatosensory cortex (SI) to controlled displacement of skin and h...

Reduced-Reference Image Quality Assessment based on saliency region extraction

In this paper, a novel saliency theory based RR-IQA metric is introduced. As the human visual system is sensitive to the salient region, evaluating the image quality based on the salient region could increase the accuracy of the algorithm. In order to extract the salient regions, we use blob decomposition (BD) tool as a texture component descriptor. A new method for blob decomposition is propos...

A quality assurance program for an amorphous silicon electronic portal imaging device using in-house developed phantoms: a method development for dosimetry purposes

Background: Electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs) play an important role in radiation therapy portal imaging, geometric and dosimetric verifications. A successful utilization of EPIDs for imaging and dosimetric purposes requires a reliable quality control process routine to be carried out regularly. In this study, two in-house phantoms were developed and analyzed for implementation in a qua...

Quality Assessment of Turfgrasses Using NTEP Method Compared to an Image-Based Scoring System

The current methods of turfgrass evaluations are often based on human-based assessment methods. However, eliminating subjective errors from such evaluations is often impossible. This research compared the accuracy of human-based and digital image processing-based methods for quality assessment of turfgrasses. Four turfgrass plots were evaluated using the two mentioned methods. In the human-base...
